Ikasi Youth Project

We are developing a Maker curriculum with Ikasi Youth Project based on the TEN Project. Ultimately we want this to be a “Gap Year” alternative for the graduates from the Everyday Heroes Club.
The Everyday Heroes Club (Ikasi Youth’s flagship initiative) is a practical, results-oriented, holistic after school program whose aim is to drive positive change in the Imizamo Yethu township community of Hout Bay, South Africa. It provides a support structure and safe working environment for 20 high school boys, with the aim to help them discover and realise their true potential.

iKhaya le themba, Home of Hope, is an NPO birthed out of Kenilworth Vineyard Church, Cape Town in 2004, with Liesl Eliastam as the visionary founder. Katherine Morse took the reigns in 2007 and further developed the staff, buildings and program. She handed over to Nicky Lloyd in 2012. Susan Hill signed on as the new director in January 2015 to continue the legacy of care and support to orphaned and vulnerable children, and their families.

Whilst the ultimate vision is to help these boys break themselves out of poverty, our mission is grounded through three primary focus areas: academic/career support, personal leadership/life skills, and ultimately a broader local community upliftment.

Starting in 2012 in preparation to take our program to the youth of the world, we wanted to first show we can vastly improve the lives of 12. In order to do this, every idea we have and action we take must be replicable anywhere in the world. Our desire is to create a meaningful holistic program that can then be copied and rolled all across South Africa and the rest of the world. To do this we need to get it right for 12, then 24, and then 48....
